Fatal Accident Investigation: 2400 Block of West Mercury Boulevard

The decedent has been identified as Vanessa D. Lane, a 51-year-old Hampton woman.

The incident remains under investigation.

The Hampton Police Division is currently investigating a fatal vehicle/pedestrian crash that occurred on April 18, 2024.

At approximately 12:56 a.m., Hampton Public Safety Communications received a call in reference to a pedestrian crash in the 2400 block of West Mercury Boulevard.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 51-year-old Hampton woman was attempting to cross the westbound traffic lanes when she was struck by a passing vehicle. The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. There was no designated crosswalk at the location she attempted to cross. The decedents name is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

The crash remains under investigation by members of the Hampton Police Division’s Accident Reconstruction Team.
