The Hampton Police Division has arrested Elijah James-Sanders in connection to this homicide. James-Sanders turned himself into police at the Pat G. Minetti Public Safety Building this morning without incident.

James-Sanders has been charged with one count each of 2nd Degree Murder, Burglary with the Intent to Commit Assault, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Discharging an Firearm in an Occupied Building, and Wearing a Mask in Public.

The Hampton Police Division has identified a suspect in connection with this homicide investigation.

Elijah James-Sanders, a 25-year-old Newport News man, currently has warrants on file for one count each of 2nd Degree Murder, Burglary with the Intent to Commit Assault, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Discharging an Firearm in an Occupied Dwelling, and Wearing a Mask in Public. There is no photo available at this time. James-Sanders should be considered armed and dangerous.

The suspect in connection with this incident is described as a black male, approximately 5'9, last seen wearing a grey-hooded sweatshirt with hood up, blue jeans, and white shoes.

The victim succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. This incident has been upgraded to a homicide investigation. There are no further details to be disseminated at this time.

The Hampton Police Division is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect in connection with a maiming that occurred on November 22, 2023.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., Hampton Communications received a call for a shooting that occurred at Rally’s located in the 1000 block of W. Mercury Boulevard.

The preliminary investigation revealed the victim, a 17-year-old male, who is an employee was involved in a physical altercation with an unknown male. After the altercation, the suspect displayed a firearm, shot the victim then fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital by members of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue with life-threatening injuries.
